Our Favourite Wānaka
Wedding Venues

Wānaka is pretty hard to beat when it comes to getting married. With its huge mountain ranges, beautiful Lake Wānaka, vineyards, private properties and laid-back alpine feel, there are plenty of incredible places to get married, whether you're planning an intimate elopement or a big celebration with all your favourite people.

We've been pretty lucky and had the chance to film weddings in some pretty special corners of the region, from lakeside ceremonies and private properties to vineyards and mountain top elopements. Wānaka has a little bit of everything, and the scenery is a pretty good bonus too!

Below, we've put together some of our favourite Wānaka wedding venues and locations, along with a few reasons why we think Wānaka is such a great place to get married.

CLASSIC VINEYARD WITH JAW DROPPING VIEWS

Rippon is one of those Wānaka wedding venues that is hard to beat for scenery. Perched above the vines on the shores of Lake Wānaka, the venue looks out across the lake to Ruby Island and the Southern Alps, with the vineyard and lakefront right on your doorstep. It has the perfect feel of simply beautiful surroundings.

There’s a big lawn area that makes a pretty epic spot for a wedding ceremony, with uninterrupted views straight out across the lake and mountains, with a bonus helipad so you can duck away from your guests for a quick mountain adventure and a few epic photos before heading back to the party. We love this venue and it's always a good vibe!

Glendhu Station is one of those Wānaka wedding venues where you could quite happily turn up a day early and not leave until someone makes you. Set just outside Wānaka with huge mountain and lake views, it has that perfect mix of rustic charm, beautiful scenery and plenty of space to make the day your own.

The historic Woolshed is the main event space, with the outdoor ceremony spot looking out across the landscape and a marquee site for carrying the party on into the evening. There are plenty of different spaces to move through during the day, which is also pretty handy when you're trying to make a wedding film.

One of the things we really love about Glendhu Station is that you can actually stay on site. The old Homestead has loads of character, making it a pretty special spot to get ready with the bridesmaids in the morning before heading down to the ceremony.

And with all that mountain scenery, the lake nearby and plenty of room to explore, there are loads of opportunities to sneak away for photos and a bit of an adventure during the day. Basically, if you like your Wānaka wedding venue with a bit of history, a lot of scenery and somewhere to keep the party going, Glendhu Station is a pretty good option.

SPACE TO PLAY, SMALL AND INTIMATE VENUE

The Lookout Lodge is a pretty special spot for an intimate Wānaka wedding, tucked away in the Maungawera Valley with big views across the surrounding mountains. The gardens and lawns give you a beautiful spot for an outdoor ceremony, while the lodge itself has plenty of character and space for everyone to settle in and enjoy the day.

One of the big bonuses is that you can stay on site, so there’s no need to pile everyone into cars and send them off to different hotels at the end of the night. You can get ready at the lodge in the morning, have the ceremony outside, enjoy drinks and dinner with your favourite people and then keep the celebrations going into the evening. There’s also a helipad on site, so if you fancy disappearing into the mountains for a few photos, you can quite literally take off and go.

For us as Wānaka wedding videographers, The Lookout Lodge has everything you want for a relaxed wedding film. Getting ready with your crew, an outdoor ceremony surrounded by mountains, drinks in the garden, plenty of time together and all those little in between moments that happen when everyone is staying under the same roof. It’s a great option if you want your wedding to feel less like a formal event and more like a really good weekend away with your favourite people.

Edgewater Hotel is one of the best known Wānaka wedding venues, sitting right on the shores of Lake Wānaka with the lake and mountains making a pretty unbeatable backdrop. The rolling lawns are perfect for an outdoor ceremony, with plenty of beautiful spots around the grounds for photos before everyone heads inside for dinner and the party.

It’s also a really easy venue for a wedding day, with accommodation, food, drinks and the reception all in one place. For a relaxed Wānaka wedding where you can keep everything close, enjoy the lake, sneak off for some mountain views and get straight back into the celebrations, Edgewater ticks a lot of boxes.
